Elie Saab’s Spring 2025 Haute Couture Collection focuses on portraits
What stands out the most in Elie Saab’s Spring-Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection is the beautiful draping on many of the outfits. Called “Portrait of A Dream,” the collection is inspired by art, like a masterpiece created with careful couture skills.
The show was opened by models Joan Smalls and Candice Swanepoel, styled by Carine Roitfeld. Front row guests included model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and actresses Eva Longoria and Sonam Kapoor, along with jewelry designer Valerie Messika and actress Olga Kurylenko. Roitfeld, the stylist, was also seen the day before at the rehearsal, making sure everything was perfect.
Saab’s goal for “Portrait of A Dream” was to create a collection inspired by the romantic feel of an impressionist garden. “Each look in this dreamy collection is like a single brushstroke in a beautiful whole,” the Maison said in its notes. Just like a painter adds light with each stroke, Saab used his sketches to create bold and feminine designs.
This collection, like art, captures time and refreshes the way we see things. Saab’s unique style is clear in the shapes of the dresses, and his use of flowing chiffon is soft and dreamy. The famous sparkling gowns he’s known for were also present, featuring sequins, crystals, bright embroidery, and beautiful fringed shawl details.
Regarding the denim piece worn by supermodel Joan Smalls, and later by Candice Swanepoel to close the show, the Maison says, “The pure blue of denim wraps around her body like the petals of a modern rose. Every detail works together to create a beautiful illusion.” This is the first denim couture gown Saab has made, but denim has already been a hit on the red carpet for stars like Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Jodie Turner-Smith. The off-the-shoulder gown Smalls wore fits the body in a flowing, diagonal way. With Elie Saab Jr. now leading the Maison as CEO, his fresh ideas, like puffer jackets and denim on the runway, are clearly influencing his father.
The SS25 Couture collection features dreamy gowns, carefully designed with a high level of craftsmanship. As the Maison says, “It’s a mix of exceptional skill and creativity, blending the past with a vision for a future that feels new and exciting.”
