e& UAE Unveils First Wi-Fi 8 Prototype at GITEX, Aiming for 100 Gbps Speed
e& UAE, the telecom branch of e&, announced on Thursday that it displayed the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 prototype using the new millimeter wave (mm-wave) frequency band at the GITEX Global event.
Wi-Fi 8 Prototype
The Wi-Fi 8 prototype aims to provide super-fast internet speeds of up to 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps). This makes it perfect for activities that need a lot of data, like streaming 4K and 8K videos, and for smooth experiences in virtual and augmented reality.
“Wi-Fi 8 at GITEX is a big step forward, offering extremely fast speeds that open new possibilities,” said Marwan Bin Shakar, senior vice president of network development at e& UAE.
Compared to older versions, Wi-Fi 8 is better in many ways. It can transfer data faster, handle more data at once, and uses new techniques for better performance. Additionally, it taps into new mm-wave frequencies, which allow for greater bandwidth and better connectivity.
Key Background
Wi-Fi standards are created and updated by a group called IEEE 802, which is part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The number next to Wi-Fi shows its generation: a higher number means faster speeds and newer technology.
Wi-Fi 7 products started being sold in 2023 and can potentially reach speeds of up to 46.1 Gbps.
GITEX Partnership
e& UAE announced a new partnership at the Dubai government pavilion during GITEX Global 2024. They will be the official partner for this pavilion for the next three years—2024, 2025, and 2026.
This partnership aims to meet the changing needs of Dubai’s residents and businesses by creating advanced digital solutions, including IoT, AI, and cloud computing. This will help improve Dubai’s smart city features and enhance the quality of life for both locals and visitors.
It will also work on programs to develop new talent, support growth, and improve digital experiences in Dubai.
