Drone delivery in Dubai is expected to make up 33% of all deliveries by 2030, making the city a leader in smart transportation in the region
A Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) official said that drone delivery services are expected to cover one-third of Dubai. This will improve delivery efficiency and help the city become more technologically advanced.
Drone Delivery System
Mohammed Abdullah Linjawi, the director general of the DCAA, said that the new drone delivery system will make operations easier across different sectors and help Dubai focus on sustainability and modern transportation solutions.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, introduced the first drone delivery system in the Middle East at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a special economic zone focused on knowledge and innovation. DSO is part of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ).
During the launch, Sheikh Hamdan placed the first order using the drone system, which was delivered from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai), one of the drone delivery points in DSO. The successful delivery was shown in a video on his social media account.
Smart City Solutions
In recent years, Dubai has introduced several programs to develop smart city solutions. These include the Dubai Program for Drone Transportation, the Dubai Robotics and Automation Program, the Dubai Research and Development Program, and a yearly plan to speed up the use of artificial intelligence.
Recently, DSO held a series of trial operations for drone delivery to ensure the highest standards of safety and security. This was done in partnership with the DCAA and Keeta Drone.
Big Numbers
The global drone delivery market is expected to grow from $1.68 billion in 2023 to $4.35 billion by 2027, according to Statista.
