AD Ports Group, a logistics company from Abu Dhabi, has won a contract to run the Al Madouneh Customs Center in Jordan.

AD Ports will use its expertise in smart logistics and digital trade to improve efficiency and increase profits while managing the facility, the company said on Wednesday.

The company did not share financial details or when the management transfer will take place.

“This deal helps Jordan achieve its goal of becoming a major logistics hub, boosting the economy and creating jobs,” said Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of AD Ports.

The facility, which opened in June, aims to speed up cargo processing and improve security. It uses automated inspection systems and data analysis to make operations smoother.

AD Ports, in partnership with Jordan Customs, expects to cut clearance times by 20% and improve security. The facility can handle up to 1,000 trucks in its import and transit yard. There are also plans to expand in the future.

Background

Last week, AD Ports selected the UAE-based MAG Group to develop Phase 1 of the Marsa Zayed project in Jordan. This is part of AD Ports’ growth in the Red Sea region, which includes cruise terminals in Egypt at Safaga, Hurghada, and Sharm El-Sheikh.

The first phase of Marsa Zayed includes upgrading 1.2 km of Red Sea waterfront, adding the Marsa Zayed Riviera. The project will also restore Aqaba’s lighthouse and build a yacht club, marina, and visitor center.

This project supports UAE-Jordan efforts to make Aqaba a top regional tourism spot and a key gateway to the Red Sea.

Trade Relations

Trade between the UAE and Jordan reached $4.2 billion (AED 15.4 billion) in 2023, up 37.9% from 2021 and 47.7% from 2019. Over the last 10 years, trade has more than doubled from $1.9 billion in 2013.

By 2032, trade between the two countries is expected to exceed $8 billion.

Non-oil trade has grown by 138% in the past decade, making the UAE Jordan’s fifth-largest trading partner.
