ADNOC Gas has given a contract to Worley to design the Bab Gas Cap Project, which aims to increase gas processing capacity by 20%

ADNOC Gas announced on Wednesday that Worley Engineering Pty Ltd has received the contract to design the early stages of its Bab Gas Cap (BGC) project, which will increase gas processing capacity by 20%.

BGC Project Details

The new gas project will increase its processing capacity by more than 1.8 billion standard cubic feet per day (SCFD). The final decision on the project is expected in 2026, according to ADNOC Gas, in a statement to the Abu Dhabi stock market on Wednesday.

ADNOC Gas, which supplies over 60% of the UAE’s gas, said the new facilities will improve the production of natural gas liquids (NGL), condensate, sales gas, and sulfur. The design includes units for gas processing, acid gas recovery, dehydration, sulfur and NGL recovery, CO2 capture, and injection facilities. It will also include new pipelines for efficient sulfur transfer to the Habshan Sulfur Granulation Plant.

The BGC project is part of ADNOC’s larger plan to grow its gas production and will help the UAE become more self-sufficient in gas. It will use gas from a new development at the Bab field, as mentioned in the statement.

ADNOC Gas has made it possible to develop both oil and gas at the field at the same time, which could produce 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (BCFD) of gas and 80 million barrels per day (MBD) of condensate. This follows detailed field development studies and the use of advanced technology.

Worley is a global company that provides services in the energy and chemicals industries. Its parent company is based in Australia, and it has several subsidiaries and affiliates.

Important statement

“Today is a big step forward for this project, which can greatly increase our gas processing ability, bring in more money, and strengthen ADNOC Gas’ role as a major gas supplier worldwide,” said ADNOC Gas CEO Ahmed Alebri.

“This exciting project will use the latest gas processing technologies and play a key role in helping the UAE become more self-sufficient in gas,” added Alebri.

Ruwais LNG project

In June, ADNOC decided to invest in the Ruwais LNG project, and the next month, Mitsui & Co, Shell, BP, and TotalEnergies joined as partners, each owning 10%.

ADNOC, ranked 12th on Forbes Middle East’s list of the Top 100 Listed Companies in 2024, awarded a contract worth over $5.5 billion to develop the Ruwais project.

Stock rise

Shares of ADNOC Gas, a part of the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), rose by 1.1%, reaching $0.96 (AED 3.54) at 10:15 AM AST, bringing its market value to nearly $74 billion (AED 271.7 billion).
