DAMAC from the UAE will grow its data center presence in Nordic countries

EDGNEX Data Centers, based in the UAE and part of DAMAC, has finished talks to buy data centers in the Nordic countries. This is another step in their plan to expand internationally.

Data Center Projects

This project supports the company’s plan to build up to 1,500 MWs of modern, eco-friendly digital infrastructure in the region, according to sources.

DAMAC invests in data centers and technology through its subsidiary, EDGNEX, a global digital infrastructure provider. EDGNEX, part of the Emirati group, builds and runs data centers in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.

In January, EDGNEX announced it would invest $20 billion to build data centers in the US.

The US expansion plan includes building advanced data centers with a total capacity of 2,000 MW over the next four years. This was announced after a meeting between DAMAC Chairman Hussain Sajwani and US President Donald Trump, just before Trump’s inauguration.

The focus will be on Sunbelt states, including Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Midwestern states like Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.

Other Investments

In December, DAMAC’s EDGNEX revealed it had bought land in Madrid, Spain, to build a data center covering 22,000 square meters with a 40 MW capacity. The project is expected to be ready by 2026.

The data center will be located in the Vicálvaro area, just 10 km from Madrid International Airport and 5 km from the Internet Exchange. It will greatly increase Madrid’s data center capacity, helping businesses expand their services.

Earlier in December, EDGNEX and Greece’s PPC Group announced a partnership to develop a data center in Spata, near Athens. The first phase will cost $157 million, with construction set to start in early 2025.

Big Numbers

The data center market is valued at $127.1 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to $254.4 billion by 2029, with an annual growth rate of 14.9%, according to Mordor Intelligence.
